Indian Gaur found dead

SALEM: An Indian Gaur was found dead near the Valukkuparai Muniyappan temple in Yercaud foothills here on Friday.

Forest Department sources said the Gaur might have strayed into the area in search of water and slipped from the top of a rock. The animal had sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. People who visited the area informed the forest officials.

A team of veterinarians conducted a post-mortem.

Forest sources said the Gaur population in the hills was on the rise.
