Andhra Pradesh
Irrigation Department to be bifurcated
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Department will be divided into two wings, one exclusively to handle construction of the projects and the other for their operation and maintenance. This decision is yet another step to expedite the ‘jalayagnam’ projects.
Announcing this to reporters after reviewing the ‘jalayagnam’ programme at a high-level meeting here on Friday, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy said the logic was that a construction engineer would concentrate only on construction and as such, he alone would ensure faster execution of the projects.
The other wing would deal with regulation and operation/maintenance of the projects.
However, Dr. Reddy said the wings would be created by way of internal adjustment of engineers .
