Petroleum institute Bill approved
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Parliament on Friday gave its approval to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) Bill, 2007, with the Rajya Sabha giving its nod. It was introduced in the Upper House on September 7.
Moving the Bill, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said the institute would be a fountainhead of world-class human resource capable of serving as the leader and innovator of tomorrow in petroleum technology.
Admission to basic undergraduate courses would begin in the academic year 2008-09.
According to a study, the gap between the availability and requirement of trained personnel in petroleum technology in India would be 36,000 by 2019.
Mr. Deora said exploration and production had increased tremendously since the launch of the New Exploration Licensing Policy in 1999.
