UNWTO: India elected

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: India on Thursday was unanimously elected chairman of the executive council of the general assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

At its 82nd meeting at Cartegena de Indias, Colombia, India was elected chairman for a year.

Union Tourism Minister Ambika Soni said at the meeting that recommendations from such fora should not discriminate against developing countries by creating obstacles to the economic development, particularly of those countries located at long distances from tourists generating markets.
