FIFA award shortlist

ZURICH: Kaka, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the finalists for FIFA’s World Player of the Year award.

Brazil forward Kaka is already expected to be awarded the Golden Ball as Europe’s best player on Sunday, and could emulate compatriots Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo by winning both titles in the same year.

Argentina forward Lionel Messi and Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo are also in contention for the FIFA award to be announced on December 17, FIFA said on Friday. — AP
