Addressing a gathering on infrastructure status in Karnataka at theFederation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) here on Friday, Principal Secretary (Infrastructure) V.P. Baligar said the memorandum would seek increased allocation for various projects. Delving on the status of railway projects in the State, he said: “the Gadag –Solapur gauge conversion would be completed by February 2008 and track doubling between Bangalore and Ramanagara by March 2008. The entire Bangalore-Mysore track doubling could be ready within two years.” The completion of Bijapur-Gadag link would boost tourism in Bijapur, Badami, Aihole, Pattadkal and Hampi, he added. AgreementThe State government will shortly enter into an agreement with a private developer short-listed for developing airports in Shimoga and Gulbarga, said that the government would be shortly signing an agreement with a consortium led by the Mehtas. “They have accepted the terms and conditions and the government will enter into an agreement. These two cities will have air connectivity within the next three years,” he added. Regarding the development of airport in Bijapur, he said that several private players had felt that it was not commercially viable unless an industrial estate or tourism infrastructure was developed around the airport. He said following the suggestion, the government intended to add another 100 acres to the project and place the project for bidding. ParkingAfter showcasing an experimental underpass that has been built using pre-cast materials at veterinary college grounds, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is contemplating on using the technology to solve the parking woes on the busy thoroughfares in the city. Mr. Baligar said: “The BBMP will come out with underground parking spaces constructed from the pre-cast material. BBMP Commissioner S. Subramanya is going to come up with innovative ideas to solve the parking problems.”
