Naveen opens Rajdhani Book Fair

‘Books contribute to development of language and literature and society’


There are no substitute for the books, says the Chief Minister

The fair will remain open from 2 pm to 9 pm on all the days


BHUBANESWAR: The 8th Rajdhani Book Fair-2007 was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Exhibition Ground here on Saturday evening.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Patnaik said thanked the Rajdhani Book Fair Committee for successfully organising the event that was gaining popularity year after year.

In his brief address, the Chief Minister expressed satisfaction that more and more book fairs were being organised in different parts of the State in recent years.

Stating that books had no substitute, Mr. Patnaik said books play a key role in development of language and literature as well as contribute to the progress of society.

Optimistic

He expressed hope that the book fair would contribute towards attracting the youths to books on various subjects.

Mr. Patnaik also released some newly-published books at the inaugural ceremony.

The Chief Minister also visited a few stalls at the book fair including the ones put up by the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration and The Hindu Group of Publications.

Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai who also spoke at the inaugural ceremony said that events like the Rajdhani Book Fair would play a major role in increasing the number of readers in the years to come.

The annual fair, with 195 participants and 400 stalls, will continue till December 12. A series of events such as poetry reading sessions, literary discussions and cultural programmes will be held during the fair.

The fair will remain open from 2 pm to 9 pm on all days.
