CDMO stresses the need for spreading the message of safety in rural areas where vulnerability is more

KORAPUT: Receiving blood from strangers might not be free from the danger of getting infected with HIV, said Bishnu Charan Roy, CDMO of Koraput while speaking to youth volunteers of SOVA at the DNK conference hall on the occasion of World AIDS Day on Saturday.

While there were facilities to test the availability of HIV virus in the blood collected from affected persons, there were chances of failing to detect the virus during the window period in the affected person creating the possibilities of transmitting to the body of the receiver, he added.

‘Prime reason’

However unprotected sex being the prime reason for transmission of the virus, he urged the youth to be more concerned about preventing such practices in their lives .

Presenting the details on the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Koraput district he said that 363 persons were found to be infected with HIV out of the 19000 people being tested in the VCTC of the district headquarter hospital at Koraput .

However the number could be more as the number of people who had reached for testing their blood was a small fraction of the total population of 13 Lakh in the district , he added.

Highlighting the need to spread the message of safety from HIV/AIDS in the rural areas of the district he said that people in the rural areas of the district were more vulnerable to the infection than those live in the urban for their migration to the other states in search of work .

The youth volunteers took out a rally in the town in the morning to create awareness among the public.
