Kakinada: Rallies and awareness meetings marked the World AIDS Day celebrations here on Saturday. Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch. Venugopala Krishna and district Collector M. Subrahmanyam flagged off a ‘Jana Jagruti’ rally in which students, voluntary organisations, district officials and people’s representatives participated. Earlier in the morning, the Collector had breakfast with children tested HIV positive at his bungalow. In his message, the ZP Chairman said AIDS was a disease which had no cure. Kakinada MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna said collective efforts had to be made to prevent the disease from spreading its tentacles. District AIDS Control Officer M. Pavan Kumar and others spoke. In curriculaVIZIANAGARAM: Officials, schoolchildren, nursing students, ANMs and voluntary organisations took out a rally on the occasion of the World AIDS Day from the Fort to Ananda Gajapathi Auditorium on Saturday. G. Srinivasulu Naidu, MLC (Teacher) flagged off the rally that culminated into a meeting at the auditorium. Collector and Chairman of the District AIDS Control Society B. Kishore asked every individual to join hands in preventing AIDS. He said that during the next one week, awareness camps would be conducted for people in the four municipalities. On the fifth day, ‘Vizia Run’ would be organised, the Collector said. Mr. Srinivsulu Naidu said that awareness on AIDS must be included in the school curricula. He also saw need for introduction of mobile blood testing vehicles for the benefit of rural people. District Medical and Health Officer V. Venkateswara Rao, Nodal Officer of District AIDS Control Society S. Chandra Reddy, Gosha Hospital Superintendent K. Krishna Kumari and others spoke. Rajahmundry: Students from Bhashyam Talent School took out a rally on the occasion of World AIDS Day on Saturday. Bhashyam Ramakrishna and principal G.V. Anjaneyulu flagged off the rally.
