Doctors’ boycott of OP treatment continues

‘Semi-autonomous status will not harm the medical services to the poor’

’No threat to the services of existing doctors’


ANANTAPUR: Doctors continued to boycott out-patient treatment in the general hospital attached to the Government Medical College here for the 12th day on Saturday, even as the representatives of AP Government Doctors’ Association (APGDA) and others organisations held talks with the Director of Medical Education and Minister for Medical Education in Hyderabad on Friday and Saturday.

In the talks held with the DME on Friday in the presence of Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy, Anantapur MP A. Venkatarami Reddy and Singanamala MLA S. Sailajanath, with the representatives of the APGDA, CPI, CPI (M) and others, the latter are learnt to have been assured that the semi-autonomous status will not harm medical services to the poor.

Further, they were also assured that user charges would not be collected and that the Government will retain all powers with it and the governing body will not be vested with powers to dispose of the assets of the college/hospital.

On Saturday, representatives of APGDA Ramanjula Naidu and Muralikrishna and Geyanand of JVV were learnt to have been assured by Minister for Medical Education G. Arunakumari that there would be no threat to the service of the existing doctors till their retirement and that they will be continued to be treated as Government employees. Meanwhile, the CPI (M), AITUC, and the APGDA reviewed the talks with DME on Friday.
