CBI probe sought into IT project dealings

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: After the special economic zones proposed to come up with private investment, it is now the turn of the State Government’s project — Rajiv Gandhi Information Technology Habitat — to face the demand for scrapping.

Raising issues about questionable land dealings, including irregularities in the land floor index, former Minister Atanasio Monserrate has urged Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to stop ongoing works and order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the entire dealings of the IT habitat project coming up at Dona Paula plateau.

Another disgruntled former Minister from Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party Ramkrishna Dhavalikar also joined the chorus on Wednesday and alleged fraud in the land deals at the IT habitat project and sought an inquiry by the CBI. The foundation stone for the project, mooted by Minister for Information and Technology Dayanand Narvekar, was laid by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Mr. Monserrate called on the Chief Minister on Wednesday to bring to his notice that there was alleged misuse of land for commercial purpose, provision for a mall and a housing project, at the proposed IT habitat.

The former Minister told presspersons that land had been sold to real estate agents and that a Minister’s relative was among those who had been the beneficiary of land allotment at the project. Mr. Monserrate said he told the Chief Minister to stop the ongoing works and decide on scrapping the proposed habitat within a week failing which the people would protest against the misuse and sale of land.
