Sankaran seeks hike in wages of anganwadi workers

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary and former Minister P. Sankaran has demanded that the wages of anganwadi workers and helpers be increased urgently. Inaugurating an indefinite relay hunger strike by anganwadi workers in front of the Collectorate here on Saturday, Mr. Sankaran said the LDF Government was following double-standards when it came to the problems of anganwadi workers. He said 60,000 workers and helpers in 30,000 anganwadis were suffering owing to government apathy. The agitation is being organised under the banner of the Kerala State Anganwadi Workers’ and Helpers’ Confederation. Its State president Haridas Pulpetta presided. DCC president U. Aboobacker delivered the keynote address. Confederation working president Sarojini Melattoor; general secretary K. Jayasree and Othukkungal panchayat president K.P. Ramlath addressed the gathering.
