102 antenatal mothers affected with HIV

Rally marks World AIDS Day in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri

Krishnagiri: The need for creating awareness among people on HIV/AIDS was highlighted at a rally held to mark the World AIDS Day in the district on Saturday. More than 1,000 students participated, which was flagged off by Collector Santhosh Babu. The rally began from Government Boys Higher Secondary School and concluded at Pazhayapet.
School and college students carried placards with messages on HIV/AIDS. A meeting was organised in connection with the campaign and to observe World AIDS Day.
District Revenue Officer V. Mohanraj said that Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres in Krishnagiri district screened about 19,064 antenatal mothers in the last seven months of which about 102 tested positive. Similarly, about 6,634 men were screened at these centres of which about 358 tested positive.
The district administration has instructed Hosur Small and Tiny Industries Association and Hosur Industries Association to educate industrial workers on prevention, care and counselling of HIV/AIDS.
Apart from this, placards and posters would be kept in front of ration shops, GH and Primary Health Centres to provide information to the people, he added.
A rally was held in Dharmapuri. Deputy Director of Health Services N. Ayyanar spoke.
