Farmers say ‘no’ to Jindal unit
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: A large number of farmers who have been opposing Jindal Aluminium plant at Boddavara in S. Kota mandal took out a rally under the aegis of opposition parties, mass organisations and Dalit Sanghams from R&B guesthouse to the tehsildar office on Saturday. On the way, they staged a rasta-roko at Devi Bomma junction for over 20 minutes.
Former MLA and TDP State secretary Sobha Hymavati, CPI district council secretary P. Kameswara Rao, Tammineni Suryanarayana (CPI-M), Venkateswarulu (IFTU) and others participated in the rally and protest demonstrations.
Later, the farmers submitted a memorandum demanding that the eviction notices issued to them be cancelled as they were displaced once from the Thatipudi reservoir project site some four decades ago.
They made it clear that they were not ready to accept the compensation and other benefits being offered by the Jindal management.
Mr. Kameswara Rao and Ms. Sobha Hymavathi said that they would intensify the agitation.
