Policemen from special force to be deployed in Octopus Government to set up 10 commando training centres

MANGALAGIRI (GUNTUR): The State Government will recruit more than 37,000 policemen in the next three years, the biggest recruitment in the police force in the last four decades, Home Minister K. Jana Reddy said on Saturday. Addressing the various battalions of Andhra Pradesh Special Police at the Raising Day celebrations held on the 6th APSP Battalion premises here, Mr. Reddy said that the Government had decided to go ahead with the recruitment, which would cost the exchequer Rs.852 crore, in order to strengthen the police force and effectively tackle fresh challenges. After recruitment for every lakh of population there would be 100 policemen. Scintillating paradeThe Home Minister earlier reviewed an impressive and colourful parade performed by seven battalions at the golden jubilee celebrations of the APSP. The spectators were treated to a scintillating ‘Hursh Parade’ performed by the seven battalions replete with police band music. The 3rd APSP Battalion, Kakinada led by Inspector MC. Warren was adjudged the best. The newly inducted Tribal Battalion, 15th APSP battalion was seen in full action as 92 constables performed stunning acrobatic feats at the ‘Malcom Parade’. The Home Minister inaugurated the newly built Police Commando Training centre, laid the foundation for quarters and released a souvenir. Lauding the stellar role played by the APSP in tackling extremist problem and aiding the local police in the maintenance of law and order, Director General of Police SSP Yadav said that more than 80 per cent of the special police were being deployed in the elite grey hound force. The policemen had also shown mettle in serving outside the State, in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka elections. Ten contingents of APSP had left for Gujarat for the forthcoming elections. Policemen from the Special Police would be deployed in the newly formed Octopus, he added. Additional Director General of Police M. Alagar said that several welfare measures had been initiated benefiting policemen and their families. The Government had decided to set up 10 commando training centres, he added. Andhra Pradesh Police Housing Board Managing Director Alok Srivastava, Inspector General of Police, Guntur Range Satyanarayan, Sixth Battalion Commandant V.C. Sajjanar and Vijayawada Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand were present.
