MANGALAGIRI (GUNTUR): The setting on a wintry morning was perfect. Uniformed men in colourful headgear marched to the accompaniment of rhythmic beats of the Police Brass Band in the backdrop of a mountainous terrain. A spectacular acrobatic feat to top it all, viewers at the Andhra Pradesh Special Police Raising Day celebrations were treated to some spectacular display of men in uniform displaying their skills. An impressive parade wall provided the perfect background to the spectacle as the seven contingents were lined up for the ‘Hursh Parade’. Led by Assistant Commandant H. Satyanarayana Rao of 8th Battalion, the parade featured seven battallions dressed in their colours. Soon after taking position, the ‘Rangeen Toli’ arrived on the grounds accompanied by the Pipe Band. Director General of Police S.S.P. Yadav and Home Minister arrived in quick succession and it was time for the ‘Hursh Fire’, a salute by the battalions by firing three times in the air, with short versions of National Anthem being played at the end of each of round fire. The ceremonial march past followed with the band playing Bharath-ki-Jawan. The stage was now set for a series of acrobatic drills by the newly inducted 15th Tribal Battalion. Dressed in shorts, the contingent of 92 men performed breath-taking acrobatic Drills in the ‘Malcom Parade’. Using a flag pole, the men displayed their athletic prowess and skill and formed several human figures, like Eagle, flower, pole and Golden Bud. They also performed ‘Seersha Asanam’ on the flag pole. The feats drew generous applause from the Home Minister and the DGP. The two-hour colourful spectacle ended as it began with the battalions marching off with a dutiful salute. The galaxy of officers, men and their families could not have asked for more.
