Somnath seeks support for HIV/AIDS victims
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Saturday asked the members to rededicate themselves in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Mr. Chatterjee made these observations to mark the World AIDS Day and sought support for those suffering from the disease.
Raising the matter, S. K. Kharventhan urged the government to take immediate steps for setting up permanent legal aid clinics with the participation of women lawyers throughout the HIV/AIDS infected areas.
The aim should be to help women, young girls and children living with the disease by getting them treatment, property rights, maintenance funds and employment.
Shailender Kumar of the Samajwadi Party expressed concern over the rising number of HIV cases.
The treatment provided by the government was inadequate to cater to a large number of patients.
