CHENNAI: Television journalist Karan Thapar was awarded the Asian Television Award for the ‘Best Current Affairs Presenter’ in Asia, in Singapore on Thursday night.

Mr. Thapar, known for his aggressive interviewing style, won it for his ‘Devil’s Advocate’ series on CNN-IBN. The winning episode was an interview with lawyer-politician Ram Jethmalani that was broadcast in November 2006.

Mr. Thapar is the only South Asian anchor to have ever won the award, and he has done so four times. This year his show was chosen over six other nominees in the category, including from CNN, NDTV and Al Jazeera.
