BHUBANESWAR: The 3rd Corporate Golf Tournament organised by the Bhubaneswar Golf Club kicked off on Saturday with a total of 20 participating teams, at the Club’s golf course here.

This year’s participants include ACE Commercial Company, Arcon Builders, Dhamra Port Company Limited, Enmark Private Limited, Falcon Group, Field Toyota, Golden Anchor, IMFA, Mahanadi Coalfields, Orissa Stevedores Ltd., Paradip Port Trust (2 Teams), POSCO-India, SRB Associates, Tata Steel, Tinplate Company, Visa Industries, Team Orissa, and Z Estates.

Team Orissa was led by Asit Tripathy. Several companies such as ESSL, Field Toyota, Kotak, and Airtel have sponsored the tournament in various ways.

Started in 2005, the Corporate Golf Tournament has picked up during the last three years with participation extending to more and more companies from inside and outside Orissa.

“The corporate interest in golf is increasing and that is a good thing for the game,” said Santosh Mohapatra, the convener of the tournament.

Nine-hole golf course

The 9-hole golf course in the pristine hills off Infocity became abuzz with participants from different places and gave a festive look as the first group teed off at 6 am in the morning.

“With more than a dozen single handicappers, this year’s tournament promises to be more competitive than the earlier years,” said Bhumi Mohanty, captain of the Golf Club. The tournament is spread over two-days. Four players each from the 20 participating teams threw hats in the competition for individual achievements.

Two players each from every team will compete with each other for the Team Championship on Sunday.

While individual achievers received their prizes on Saturday, the Team Championship will mark the conclusion of the event. Speaking about the facilities available at the club, Dulal Pani, the Secretary of Bhubaneswar Golf Club said it is preparing to host more tournaments.
