NEW DELHI: The young man who allegedly shot dead his 21-year-old friend at Vasant Kunj on Wednesday surrendered before a Patiala House court here on Saturday. He has been remanded to four days’ police custody. Twenty-five-year-old Moti surrendered in the court of a Metropolitan Magistrate, following which the South-West Delhi police requested for his remand to question him in connection with the death of Varun Malik, a student of Dronacharya Engineering College, on Wednesday night. Although the police suspect that attempts have been made to destroy the firearm used in the commission of crime, they would interrogate Moti to trace it. “If necessary, we would confront him with the other two friends of the deceased who were present at the time he was shot at,” said a police officer, adding that the suspect’s mobile phone records would also be scrutinised. A resident of Masoodpur, Moti had gone missing after he allegedly shot dead Varun at Vasant Kunj B-10 Market. Varun’s two other friends, Nitin and Sachin, rushed him to Fortis Hospital where he was declared dead. FirearmNitin and Sachin told the police that Moti had brought a firearm and was flaunting it when it suddenly went off hitting Varun in the chest. Varun’s father Sulekh Malik, who is a builder, has alleged that his son was murdered and it was all pre-planned. Shocked over Varun’s death, his 14-year-old domestic help Chhotu committed suicide on Thursday.
