Thiruvananthapuram: Timely intervention by the Airports Authority of India’s medical centre at the international airport here enabled Air India Express to prevent cancellation of a flight to Dubai on Friday night. Airport sources said one of the cabin crew, Neelu Sohan, developed severe stomach pain and started vomiting when the flight IX 345, which arrived from Kozhikode, was about to take off for Dubai around 10.25 p.m. Duty Medical Officer D. Sivaprasad, on the request of the Commander of the aircraft, Capt. Alexy, rushed to the aircraft and provided medical aid. As Ms. Sohan was weak and about to faint, the doctor recommended shifting her to the emergency medical centre in the terminal building. The airline authorities were put in a tight spot as they had either to replace the cabin crew or cancel the flight. The crew had four members and the flight 180 passengers. A team, led by Dr. Sivaprasad, attended to Ms. Sohan and she responded to the treatment. The passengers, who were not informed of the development, started turning their ire towards the airline and the crew following the delay. After an hour and a half, the doctor declared Ms. Sohan fit to travel and the flight took off at 12.30 a.m. Airport sources said there were no problems for her on board. She had returned to Kozhikode on Saturday on the flight from Dubai.
