MRPS sore over Government for not convening an all-party meet It plans to chalk out an action plan HYDERABAD: Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) has criticised the government for not keeping its promise of convening an all-party meeting to discuss problems faced by physically-challenged persons. The MRPS, which organised a dharna by the disabled that witnessed an impressive turnout recently, has expressed dissatisfaction over Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s willingness to meet organisations and persons working for the cause of disabled rather than political parties. Dr. Reddy will meet individuals and organisations working for the cause of the differently abled at the Secretariat between 10 a.m. and 12 noon on Sunday. MRPS president Manda Krishna told reporters who met him on Saturday that the problems of disabled were continuing as the government lacked commitment in redressing them. The MRPS would intensify its agitation and would chalk out an action plan in this direction shortly. The Samiti would work in coordination with the political parties and organisations that came forward to join the struggle in the interests of the disabled. Meanwhile, National Sanchar Yojana Seva Congress, a voluntary organisation, decided to meet the Chief Minister and represent to him the plight of the disabled, hitherto running public telephone booths, who were now on the streets unable to withstand the competition from private sector. The organisation would ask the government to cover all the 13.6 lakh disabled under the pension scheme and enhance the pension amount to above Rs. 500. The organisation’s president G. Satyanarayana Reddy said his NGO would also seek steps for disbursal of pension through nationalised banks to avoid misuse and allotment of separate seats for the disabled in trains.
