33rd art festival organised by Kartik Fine Arts inaugurated

CHENNAI: Music can have a soothing effect and be an effective antidote to day-to-day problems faced by people, said Sri Ganapathy Sachidananda Swami on Saturday.
Inaugurating the 33rd art festival of Kartik Fine Arts here, he said many stalwarts such as saint poet Thyagaraja attained ‘moksha’ through music.
Hearing soothing music will help businessmen find the right solutions for their problems, he said.
T.S. Narayanasami, chairman and managing director, Bank of India, said Carnatic music and divinity were synonymous.
On the occasion, Ganapathi Sachidananda Swami conferred the title ‘Isai Peroli - 2007’ on Dr. R. Ganesh, Carnatic vocalist and ‘Nadanamamani - 2007’ title on Lavanya Ananth.
The award conferred on Dr. Ganesh was instituted by the Gomathi Visweswaran Charitable Trust, and carried a citation, a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 and a medallion.
The Nadanamamani award instituted Shriram Award of Excellence also carried a citation, a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 and a medallion.
The organisation also honoured R. Krishnaswami, secretary, Narada Gana Sabha; by giving him the Kartik Rajagopal Golden Jubilee Award of Excellence for ‘best organiser’.
N. Bhairavi and Malavi received the Smt. D.K. Pattammal Award of Excellence, instituted by Smt. Nithyasri Mahadevan.
