26 students receive awards
CHENNAI: A total of 26 school students, selected for their essays and paintings on AIDS awareness, received awards on Saturday.
An official release said they had submitted their entries on November 14. Collector R. Jaya handed over the awards on the World AIDS Day. While the first prize winners got Rs. 3,000 each, the second and third prizes fetched Rs.2,000 and Rs.1,000 respectively. Twenty other students received consolation prize of Rs.500 each. Conducted jointly by the Directorate of Education Research and Training of the Education Department and the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society, the competition was aimed at spreading AIDS awareness among high and higher secondary school students.— Special Correspondent
