BANGALORE: Soliton Technologies, manufacturers of machine vision solutions, on Saturday launched an indigenously-made digital smart camera that helps spotting defects during the manufacturing process.

The camera, called ‘Spot-It’, can identify a defective part when the product is in the assembly line and automatically control an actuator to remove the defective part from the production line, Soliton Technologies Pvt. Ltd. CEO, Ganesh Devaraj, told reporters here.

“It is an intelligent eye that never blinks, never gets distracted and never misses a defect. It helps a manufacturer to spot a defect before his customer does,” he said.

Spot-It has a varied range of applications and can be used to detect assembly defects, component mix up, classification of product parts by their shape, colour, count, verification of stickers, printed characters and identification marks.

The camera would help manufacturers cut down on manual labour required to spot the defects, enhance quality control and also mitigate chances of consignments being rejected because of a single defective part.

Though the technology has been popular in Europe, in India the technology had not caught up in a major way due to the high pricing. “However, Spot-it is not only comparatively priced lower, but will also save time and labour cost involved in production,” said Mr. Devaraj. The product is the culmination of three years of research and development at Soliton, Bangalore, he said. The company plans to sell the product throughout the country and later export it also. — PTI
