CHENNAI: Leading trainer Robert Foley reached a landmark by saddling over 5,000 winners, 131 of them coming in Classics, till date. He has trained and won races at all the centres.

As on date, Foley has sent out 5432 winners, all of them from leading horse owner Dr. M. A. M. Ramaswamy’s stable. Foley has been the trainer for Dr. Ramaswamy’s horses since 1980.

Foley started his career as an assistant trainer to Capt. J. H. Fownes and A. B. David. And after taking the ‘A’ Trainer’s licence in 1980, Foley has not looked back. He was the champion trainer at both Madras and Udhagamandalam and for a record 13 years-in-row (including 2007) has been the champion trainer at Mysore races.

Dr. Ramaswamy commended Foley’s achievement. He said: “I have known Foley from his childhood. He is a sincere and hardworking young boy. I had started giving my horses to him since 1980 and he has been loyal and successful to me. I wish him more luck.”
