Cylinder blast kills one person

BANGALORE: One person was killed and another seriously injured when a helium cylinder exploded in Ulsoor Gate police station limits on Saturday.

The police said the cylinder exploded while three men were filling gas into balloons at a vacant plot on Sanjevappa Lane, off Avenue Road, around 11.30 a.m. While Aiyappa (45) of K.P. Agrahara died on the spot, Ramalingaiah (40) was injured in the eyes. He has been hospitalised. The other escaped unhurt, the police said. The Ulsoor Gate police have registered a case.

Woman attacked

A six-member gang attacked an elderly woman at her house in K.R. Puram police station limits early on Saturday and made away with Rs. 10,000 and gold jewellery worth Rs. 70,000.

The police said that around 12.45 a.m. someone knocked on the door of Jayamma’s house in Bosco Nagar. When she opened the door, six men attacked her with clubs and robbed her of three gold chains she was wearing. Later, they looted cash and other jewellery from the house.

The K.R. Puram police, who have registered a case of dacoity, suspect that a few people who had a financial dispute with Jayamma’s sons could have committed the crime.

Fire

Computers, furniture and fitness equipment were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a gymnasium in Koramangala police station limits in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident took place around 1 a.m. at the gymnasium situated on 800-ft road, Koramangala. Three fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire that was caused by electric short-circuit, the police said.
