BANGALORE: The long arm of the law finally caught up with a couple who had been evading both the police and the people to whom they owed large sums of money. Eshwarchand Sharma and his wife Anita Sharma, who are non-resident Indians from the United States, had come to India four years ago. They had set up a software firm and the police allege that they made money from their venture. They, however, closed down their firm without notice, leaving both their landlords and their employees high and dry. Two travel agencies of Bangalore to whom they owed lakhs of rupees lodged a complaint with the city police but to no avail. Neither the firm nor the couple could be traced. Many believed that they had fled to the United States. The Yelahanka police on Friday managed to trace their whereabouts to a farmhouse in Hegganahalli near Devanahalli. Investigations revealed that the couple had been staying in the farmhouse soon after they wound up their firm. The police have not only booked cases of cheating against them under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), but also for overstaying their visa.
