VIZIANAGARAM: Following focused intervention on prevention of HIV transmission among people, there has been a decline in positive cases. The number of positive cases tested at the 13 voluntary counselling and testing centres dropped from 1,299 out of 21,773 last year to1,032 out of 18,520 tested till date in the district, said S. Chandra Reddy, Additional DMHO and Nodal Officer of the District AIDS Control Society. Use of condomsAt a workshop on HIV/AIDS for media personnel and voluntary organisations here on Sunday, Dr. Chandra Reddy said that the success of a campaign depended on media and community participation. Spread of the disease could be controlled through promotion of condoms as it was proved a success in European countries. He said that those who tested positive must have to take anti-retro viral therapy throughout their life in addition to nutritious food intake and normal exercises. He said that the first line drug (ART) was being given to 161 people, including 22 children, in the district. He said that the district was sanctioned four more VCTCs and a Care and Support Centre. ICDS Project Director Komali, SETVIZ CEO R. Tyagaraju, Resource Educational Society – Kiranam, SWAGATI, Vijaya Network of Positive People and others participated.
