BIJAPUR: District Principal and Sessions Judge Vijay Shiriyannavar on Saturday favoured making HIV test mandatory for brides and bridegrooms so that undesired alliance could be avoided. Participating in an AIDS awareness programme organised at the district court complex here, he said statistics showed that youths were more vulnerable to the disease. Hence, it was essential to have HIV test before marriages, he added. Ravi Kittur of the voluntary test centre, stressed the need for proper rehabilitation of the affected persons. A campaign should be launched against the social stigma attached to the disease.
