M. Mallikarjun Kharge Bangalore: President of KPCC M. Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday criticised A.T. Ramaswamy, who headed the Joint Legislature Committee on encroachment of government lands in Bangalore Urban district, for submitting the final report to Speaker Krishna when the Legislative Assembly had already been dissolved. Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines a conference of the Ex-servicemen’s Cell in the KPCC, Mr. Kharge termed the presentation of the report, when he was no longer the chairman of the committee after the dissolution of the Assembly, as illegal. There was no urgency for him to submit the final report, when the House was in suspended animation, and was later dissolved. Mr. Kharge alleged that there was some motive behind such a move. Another joint legislature committee could have been constituted when a new Assembly was elected and it would have continued the work and presented a report on the encroachments, he added. Making it clear that the Congress had no objection to initiating action against the encroachers, he said that the party would not tolerate any attempt at witch-hunting. Taking a dig at those who criticised V.S. Ugrappa, MLC, for approaching Mr. Ramaswamy demanding what they were doing in Vidhana Soudha after the term of the committee was over, Mr. Kharge asked whether it was correct for the officials to sit with Mr. Ramaswamy and tamper with the records. This, he said, was intended to do mischief. Earlier, inaugurating the conference, Mr. Kharge promised that the problems of ex-servicemen would be solved. He also presented a cash prize of Rs.10,000 to Manjunath of Bankana Katte in Chikmagalur district. Mr. Manjunath, who noticed a defective railway track, stopped a train and averted a possible disaster.
