Rice taken through waterway

KOCHI: A consignment of rice was transported from Kochi to Kottappuram through the National Waterway III on Sunday. A Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation barge was used for the purpose. The journey took around three and a half hours. The barge was received at the destination by Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran.

The Chairman of the corporation and adviser to the State government on inland waterways and ports, B.R. Menon, who accompanied the barge in a passenger vessel, said the cost incurred for transport would be 10 to 20 per cent less than that through the road route. Hence, the goods would be available at cheaper prices.
