AIIMS chief’s removal

This refers to the news report, ‘Venugopal removed’ (Dec. 1). P. Venugopal should not have stuck to his post as Director of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences for so long. He could have made an honourable exit voluntarily than wait till he was “forcibly” removed.

R.Murali Kumar,

Srirangam

In one way, the removal of Dr. Venugopal as AIIMS Director is commendable as it highlights the need for an age of retirement. What happened in AIIMS should happen all over the country. Several retired IAS officers have been re-employed and are enjoying the fruits of their political contacts.

R.K. Singhal,

Ghaziabad

That Parliament and even the office of President have been involved in the process of effecting an amendment in the existing law only to sack Dr. Venugopal shows the state of our politics. Responsible parliamentarians and Ministers spending their valuable time to nurture personal grudges is not a good sign.

First of all, let politicians fix their retirement age.

D. Narasa Raju,

Visakhapatnam

The manner in which Dr. Venugopal has been shown the door is unfortunate. Given that the feud between Union Health Minister Ambumani Ramadoss and Dr. Venugopal has been driven by personal ego rather than real policy issues, the Centre ought to have adopted a pragmatic approach to the issue rather than give in to petty coalition politics. The issue shows the UPA government in a bad light.

Ushadevi Suddapalli & S. Bhaskara Rao,

Muscat
