BHUBANESWAR: ‘Uddan’, (literally meant flight), the three-day State-level youth convention kicked off in the State capital here on Saturday. Being hosted on the Adivasi Ground by the Task Force on Women and Violence (TFWV), an NGO, to sensitise younger generation on gender issues, it was inaugurated by Minister for Cooperative Affairs Surama Padhi.

TFWV was set up in 1994 and has assumed an important role in dealing with the development of women in the State, especially in areas of empowerment, human rights protection and gender issues, explained its coordinator Alaka Samal. As part of observation of 16 days of activism period to end violence against women, Promita Chowdhry, the Programme Officer of Oxfam-GB said that TFWV has been hosting the annual ‘Uddan’ youth convention for the past five years, she added.

Among others who addressed the gathering were member of the State Commission for Women Namrata Chadha, State Social Welfare Board chairperson Pravati Parida and former Khurda legislator Dilip Srichandan.
