Nexus of officials with land mafia alleged The procedure is said to be different from the prescribed KORAPUT: Resentment is on the rise in Koraput district demanding a meeting of District Valuation Committee to ensure proper valuation of the cost of land. According to sources, confusion resulting from wrong information is adding to the alleged nexus developed between revenue and registration officials with land mafias, who are operating from the district and also even from the neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Chattisgarh. According to a letter being signed by affected people in the district and submitted to the district Collector, it was alleged that the confusion was being made by the district administration itself in 2004 by pressuring some tahsildars to sign in a new valuation procedure that was different from the procedure described in the Orissa Stamp Rules and since then land in the district had been sold at variable rates. While this pricing method continued, the common man continued to suffer paying higher price whenever they he or she had failed to grease these officials, the sources said. The price list was the highlight of the Public Interest Litigation filed by one Prasant Satpathy, a resident of Aurobindo Nagar of Jeypore recently . In its judgment, the High Court, considering the facts and circumstances of the case had directed the District Collector of Koraput who is also the chairman of the Valuation Committee to convene a meeting of the committee to consider the representation made by the complainant .
