The organisers will not get any financial support The Government will take care of the publicity BANGALORE: The State Government has decided to observe “Bengalooru Habba” as an annual festival, on public- private participation basis for showcasing traditional arts, encouraging the performing artistes and promoting the tourist interests of the State. I.M. Vittalamurthy, Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Tourism and Kannada and Culture, told presspersons here on Saturday that the Government was planning to constitute a standing committee for fixing the permanent itinerary for all the State-sponsored utsavs. The Government could draw national and international attention towards the art and cultural aspects of the State by being a part of the habba. A five-day programme would form part of the habba, he said. Although the habba was inaugurated on the concluding day of Suvarna Karnataka year, the “Suvarna Samskrithi Parampare” programme would be inaugurated by Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Sunday at Ravindra Kalakeshtra. Dancer Maya Rao would preside over the function. Various programmes such as dance, classical music, folk songs, light music, film songs, rendering of vachanas, plays and poets’ session would be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Nayana at Kannada Bhavana, Samasa Rangamandira and Town Hall from December 2 to 6 in which over 550 performers would participate. The official said the Government would not extend any financial assistance directly to the organisers of the habba. It would pay the remuneration to them directly and bear the cost of publicity. Asked about details of the expenditure, he said the remuneration for artistes would be around Rs. 17 lakh. The N. Dharam Singh Ministry and the H.D. Kumaraswamy Ministry refused to support the habba because of public opposition.
