NCC cadets on social awareness mission

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: NCC cadets from Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Medak districts got to know the difficulties of living in a slum as they spread out within Kastal Ramkishtunagar on a social awareness mission on Sunday morning. The fact that awareness levels of slum dwellers on social issues was dismally low enthused the cadets to launch themselves into the exercise more vigorously.

“We made a small child from the slum to inaugurate the awareness drive to symbolise that the future needs to be secure for the next generations”, revealed campaign coordinator Vijay Gopal. “In order to get a first hand experience of the slum life we initiated the campaign very early in the day”, he added.

Cadets in teams of three went around the locality and spoke on health and hygiene, HIV and AIDS, use of iodised salt and the need to protect the girl child. As a measure of gaining confidence of the local people, they carried with them a gift pack of a pen and a toffee.

Lt. Col. Indrajit Roy, Lt. Ch. Shiva Prasad and 2nd Officer K. Srinivas Rao and Health Education Officer China Mallaiah also attended.
