Demands engineering and medical college for coal miners’ children Suggests four-lane roads from Sattupalli to Asifabad GODAVARIKHANI (KARIMNAGAR DT): BJP state president Bandaru Dattatreya has said that they would constitute a study team with intellectuals, trade union representatives and others to look into the problems of coal miners in the Singareni Collieries Company limited. Participating as chief guest at the roundtable conference on ‘Future of Singareni in separate Telangana state’ organised by the party in Godavarikhani town on Sunday, he said that the BJP would also include the Singareni coal miners issue in the election manifesto. “We will take all measures for opening of new mines to create more employment to the local youth by pressurising the Union and State governments”, he stated. Letter to CMExpressing concern over the reported exploitation of coal miners by the officials and contractors of Singareni, he said that they would expose the misdeeds of the officials and represent the matter to the State Government. He also said that he would again write an open letter to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajashekhar Reddy on the problems prevailing in the Singareni coal mines. He also demanded the Government to open a technology university and a medical college for the benefit of coal miners’ children to provide quality education. Stressing on the need to preserve the Telangana culture and history with Singareni, he demanded the Government to open four-lane roads from Sattupalli to Asifabad covering four districts along coal mine regions of Singareni to create industrial corridor. Priority to researchHe also suggested the Government to accord priority for the research and development wing in the Singareni to effectively use the existing manpower in the coal belt region. He said that the reforms should have a human face and it should not neglect the local human resources. AITUC secretary Y Gattaiah said that the union would extend total support to the BJP in its fight against the privatisation of the Singareni and protection of interests of coal workers. He said that their trade union was always fighting against the voluntary retirement scheme, privatisation and retrenchment of workers in the Singareni. TDP leader S Satyanarayana suggested that production of value-added coal to compete with the international markets. Local leaders Ravinder Reddy, Pittala Ravinder, Muneer, Puli Mohan, T Ravinder Rao also spoke.
