A cargo plane develops snag

One of the engines catches fire

Regular operation restored

BANGALORE: Flight operations were affected for more than an hour at the HAL Airport here on Sunday after a cargo plane developed technical snag on the runway after landing.

Bangalore Airport Director Navinder Kaushal told The Hindu that the unscheduled cargo flight developed technical problems after it landed at the airport at around 8.30 p.m. As the runway was blocked, arrival and departure of several flights were affected, he said.

Sources said engine No 2 of the flight was on fire when it landed. Immediately, fire fighters were rushed to the runway. It took almost one hour to clear the runway, the sources said. While some flights that were to land were diverted to Chennai, some were asked to wait.

As it was peak hour for arrival and departure of several flights, many passengers were affected. The sources said schedules of the affected flight were being reworked even as regular operation commenced at around 9.30 p.m.
