Sushil Kumar Modi NEW DELHI: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi was injured in an accident at the Delhi airport here on Sunday morning. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader suffered a muscular strain when the driver of a JetLite coach, ferrying him and some of his party colleagues from the airport terminal to an Ahmedabad-bound aircraft, suddenly applied the brakes causing him to fall. “The Deputy Chief Minister and his colleagues were standing inside the bus. We offered him medical assistance at the airport which he declined. As a result, he and one of his colleagues did not fly to Ahmedabad on Sunday,” said Gary Kingshott, Chief Executive Officer of JetLite. Internal inquiryMr. Kingshott said an internal inquiry had been ordered into the incident that will be completed within the next 48 hours. Pending outcome of the report, the driver has been suspended. “We do not know why he slammed the brakes. The driver was not a member of the JetLite staff. He is a contract driver.” Later, Mr. Modi was taken to Indian Spinal Injuries Centre at Vasant Kunj from where he was discharged after a couple of hours. “He came to us at about 9-30 a.m. After all medical investigations, it was found that it was not a serious injury and he had suffered only a muscular strain. The doctor in charge gave the Deputy Chief Minister a five-day prescription,” said the Hospital’s Administrative Officer, MacDonald Walter.
