BANGALORE: Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Sunday inaugurated the five-day cultural festival, Suvarna Samskriti Parampare, a part of Airtel Bengalooru Habba 2007, jointly organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture and Artists Foundation For the Arts (AFFA) at four theatres in the city.

This year’s habba promises to be bigger and better with a distinctive regional flavour and added attractions, including sports.

Being organised also as part of the celebrations of the Suvarna Karnataka Year, the programme will have several cultural, dance and other forms of art performed by artistes from all the parts of the State.

Programmes

They will give their programmes at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Samsa Open Air Theatre, Town Hall and Nayana Ranga Mandira.

Commending the city for its global brand name, Mr. Thakur said that it smoothly blended both modernity and tradition.

Age-old temples of pilgrimage value exist side by side with state-of-the-art buildings, industrial and knowledge centres, which, he said, is the beauty of Bangalore.

The public-private partnership in Bengalooru Habba, the Governor said, is indeed a shot in the arm for the Government.

Good opportunity

It provides a good opportunity to people both within the city, as well as the visitors from the world over for experiencing this cultural bonanza.

Mr. Thakur felicitated Maya Rao, noted dance teacher, Venkatesh, chief executive officer, Airtel, Padma Subramanyam, dancer, and Nandini Alva, trustee of AFFA.

Kannada and Culture Secretary I.M. Vittala Murthy delivered the introductory speech.
