Diary containing details of transactions since 1997 found

NEW DELHI: Three persons allegedly involved in printing and selling counterfeit currency notes have been arrested by the South Delhi police. The police have recovered fake currency worth Rs.2.77 lakh at their instance.

The police said this past Friday, auto-rickshaw driver Tejpal approached Sub-Inspector Mukesh of Badarpur police station near Jaitpur Mor with a Rs. 100 note which appeared to be fake. He told the police that the passenger, who identified himself as Ravi, had given him the note as fare. Ravi was arrested after it was ascertained that the note was indeed a fake. Three more fake notes were recovered from his possession.

Subsequently, Ravi was produced in the court and remanded to two-day police custody. At his instance, the police arrested Vinay and Amit, both residents of Shadara in North-East Delhi. Two more suspects, Naveen and Luv Kush, also Shahdara residents, are absconding, the police said. The fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs. 100 and Rs. 50 were recovered from a house where the gang had set up the entire apparatus for printing the fake notes, the police said.

Apart from fake currency, the police also recovered the printer, “Mahatma Gandhi” water mark, the fake “RBI thread” and other equipment. A diary containing details of transactions since 1997 was also seized. During interrogation, Ravi allegedly told the police that he would buy Rs. 3,000 worth of fake currency notes for Rs. 1,000 from Vinay and Amit and then sell them in the market. Further, he said that the gang was active in Loni in Ghaziabad and Ashok Nagar in East Delhi. A person going by the name of Lala was instrumental in helping the gang in its illegal activity, the police said.
