Honours for Cherupushpa and Mount Carmel

KOTTAYAM: Cherupushpa HSS, Chandanakampara and Mount Carmel HSS, Kottayam won the girls’ and boys’ titles respectively of the 17th Girideepam all-India inter-school basketball tournament at the Girideepam court here on Monday.

Cherupushpa overcame host Girideepam Bethany’s challenge 61-55 after leading 33-30 at half-time. Sudheesh Surendran (21) did the star turn for Cherupushpa and he was complimented well by M.G. Jackson (14) and M. Rajith (12).

However, Cherupushpa’s attempt at wining a double failed as its girls lost to Mount Carmel which won 45-22.

Rajith 12) bt Girideepam Bethany, Kottayam 51 (Jithu Jacob 22, Justin Mathew 12, Abin Mathew 10).Semifinals: Cherupushpa 51 (Sudheesh Surendran 13, Tinu 11, Jinto 11) bt Don Bosco HSS, Irinjalakuda 50 (Amit Sebastian 17, Shibin Shamshudeen 15, Sudeer 15); Girideepam Bethany 46 (Jithu Jacob 11, Joseph Thomas 10) bt St. Thomas HSS, Pala 30 (S. Dileep 12).

Girls (final): Mount Carmel HSS, Kottyam 45 (Shija Joseph 12, Sona M. Saji 10) bt Cherupushpa HSS, Chandanakampara 22 (C.N. Rajitha 12).

Semifinals: Mount Carmel HSS 25 (Sona M. Saji 10) bt Kristhu Jyothi HSS, Chettipuzha 12 (Theresa Susan 10); Cherupushpa 48 (M.J. Honey 26, Alphy George 12) bt Little Flower GHSS, Koratty 26 (Lidya Varghese 11).
