HYDERABAD: Skoda Holdings will be setting up a plant to manufacture steam turbines for power plants up to a capacity of 150 MW here in about two years. The company has already purchased land for developing the facility. “We want to eventually make Hyderabad the hub not only for India, but for the entire Asian market, though we already have a joint venture with a company in China. We will implement the project in four phases, depending on the demand for the turbines,” Chairman and CEO of Skoda Holdings, Jiri Zapletal, said here on Monday. Skoda Holdings had signed a 40-million euro contract with Konaseema Gas Power Corporation for the latter’s 2X145 MW gas-based power project located in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. While the steam turbine would be supplied by Skoda Holdings, GE would supply gas turbine. Technical capabilities and pricing were acceptable to all concerned. However, the project would get under way only when long-term gas supply contracts were signed, he said.
