Corrections and clarifications

* The heading of the second editorial (December 3, 2007) was incorrectly given as “Who needs Islamaphobes?” It should have been “Who needs Islamophobes?” The text of the editorial spells it correctly.

* The second paragraph in an article “Behind the Adivasi unrest in Assam” (Op-Ed, December 3, 2007) was: “The Adivasi, a nomenclature now adopted by the approximately 20 million strong Tea Garden Labour and ex-Tea Garden Labour community, is not the only community in Assam seeking classification as a Scheduled Tribe.” The author clarifies that it was a typographical error and should have been “20-lakh”, as mentioned towards the end of the article.

* The text and the caption of the accompanying photograph in a report “Most human rights violations reported from UP, Bihar, Delhi” (Karnataka edition – Bangalore, December 2, 2007, page 3) referred to Shivaraj Patil as Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The NHRC clarifies that the chairperson of the NHRC is Mr. S. Rajendra Babu. Mr. Shivaraj V. Patil is a member.

* The heading and text of an item (“Briefly”, “Business” page, December 1, 2007) was: “‘Consumer Price Index remains static’ … The Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (base 2001) remained stationary at 134 in October.” It was an error. The index was 134 in October 2007 and 133 in September 2007. The Business Desk says it was incorrectly put out by the Press Information Bureau.
