JAIPUR: “Red Ribbon Clubs” are proposed to be established at all private hospitals in Rajasthan to promote public awareness about HIV and AIDS and provide counselling to patients. State Medical and Health Minister Digambar Singh said at Fortis Escorts Hospital here over the weekend that the clubs would highlight the extent of AIDS infection in the State and apprise the people of the preventive measures. The “Reb Ribbon Express”, which was flagged off from New Delhi railway station this past Saturday, is presently touring four districts in the State with the message of AIDS control. Volunteers travelling in the seven-coach train have visited several villages in Alwar district. Dr. Singh said the large tourist arrivals in the State and migration of people to other States in search of jobs were two of the important factors contributing to the spread of AIDS. The establishment of dedicated clubs would be a significant step towards its control, he added. The Minister said the State had achieved good results under the National Rural Health Mission and registered a significant increase in institutional deliveries and voluntary blood donation. Special camps organised under the Swasthya Chetana Shivir Yojana had rendered health care services to 33 lakh people in the rural areas, he said.
