Civic body officials told to speed up tax collection
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: Municipal Revenue officials have been told to speed up tax collection as taxes from houses to the tune of Rs. 4.80 crores, water Rs. 48 lakhs, shopping complexes Rs. 12 lakhs and vacant land Rs. 24 lakhs were pending. The issue was raised by Congress councillor L. Ram Mohan at the Council meeting on Monday and appealed to Chairperson M. Geetha to find out reasons from official concerned.
Revenue Officer Rama Rao tried to convince the Chairperson by saying that the delay was due to confusion in GOs enhancing tax structure for residential and non-residential structures. Ms. Geetha, not satisfied with his reply asked him to constitute teams and collect arrears from the tax payers within the next three months.
On stagnation of water and bushes in vacant lands amidst residential areas, the Chairperson instructed Commissioner S.S.Varma to clear bushes with civic body grants and display board that “the site belongs to the municipality.”
The site would be given back to the owner till he/she repaid the amount spent on bush clearance, she said.
