Modern traffic signals at 13 junctions in SCB area

HYDERABAD: Modern traffic signals equipped with the light emitting diodes (LEDs) are to be set up at 13 junctions in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board.

A private agency has won the contract for installing them in a public auction under public private partnership mode on Monday.

The private agency, Star Power, has bagged the work order for a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) period of nine years and nine months. During this time,the agency will have to put up modern traffic lights at designated spots shown by the board and also maintain them.

In lieu of installing the traffic signals, the agency will be allowed to put up advertising boards.

But, these boards will not be permitted for traffic signal posts located near or adjoining the army installations like the AOC Centre, R.K. Puram junction and others. Work will begin later this month, according to V. Premchand, CEO, SCB. The SCB has also called for a fresh public auction for setting up of streetlights in a similar PPP mode for the Rajiv Rahadhari for an 11.5-km stretch from Paradise Circle to Air Force Station, Begumpet and Patny to Bolarum, after the firm, which bagged the contract under a public auction conducted couple of months ago abandoned the work.

The stretch will have seven high mast lights and streetlight of 250 watts for every 33 metres.

The private firm can utilise poles for display of advertisement to generate revenue for a maximum period of four years and seven months, a reduction of two months from the previous BOT period.

Ten other roads of about 100-km stretch too are to get modern streetlights like Paradise Junction-New Monda Market road, AOC Swimming Pool-Ramakrishnapuram, Diamond Point-Medchal, Bowenpally to Balanagar, Bowenpally-Trimulgherry, Diamond Point-JBS, Sikh Road-Tadbund.
