Timely help to make his dreams come true

Staff Correspondent

Here is how philanthropy can fill the rich-poor bridge

BIDAR: The case of Sommappa C. Rathod, a first semester student of the Government Medical College, Bidar, is an example of how poor students face hardships in pursuing medical education.

For him, medical education remained a distant reality after he found out that he cannot afford to meet the expenditure involved. At one point of time, he thought of dropping out of the course. Somappa Rathod wrote a letter to the college principal in the last week of October seeking cancellation of his admission. The principal, however, advised Somappa Rathod not to take a hasty decision.

Somappa Rathod, at that point of time, found himself without anyone to support him. Things changed for Somappa Rathod after Abdul Qadeer, secretary of Shaheen Educational Institutions here, came forward to take care of his boarding and lodging facilities and also his fees for the remaining semesters.

The support extended by Abdul Qadeer has helped Somappa Rathod to focus on making his dream a reality.

Somappa told presspersons that his elder sister, Rammavva C. Rathod, could not pursue medical education after she got admission at KIMS, Hubli, owing to financial problems. She has, however, completed B.Sc in Agriculture.

“I thought that my educational career was at stake and would go the way that my sister’s went. However, that did not happen because of the support from Abdul Qadeer,” he said.
