ERODE: After five days, the Government Higher Secondary School for Boys, Perundurai, reopened on Monday. On December 27, a student, Kumaresan (17) studying in Standard X set himself ablaze in his house and was taken to Government Headquarters Hospital, Erode, where he died in the early hours of December 28. Following this, the school remained closed to avert any untoward incident. It is stated that the boy failed to attend a special class conducted in the school and the Headmaster of the school scolded him and warned him for his absence from the special class. Meanwhile the Perundurai police registered a case against the Headmaster and are looking for him. When the school reopened, police pickets were posted round the institution.
